After Wales, we drove up to Glasgow to spend a few days exploring the area and visiting with our friend Davide. We stayed a little outside of the city center and closer to the University. Basically we stayed in the "hipster hood." Lot's of little restaurants, bars and cafes. Lot's of young people. Lots of tattoos.
We were also right down the road from the metro. So to get to the main parts of the city was a quick tube ride around a circle track. I'm not kidding. The train was a tube and we road on either the inner circle or the outer circle, depending on which part of the city we were going to. It was pretty idiot proof. Which is awesome because when we're traveling, public transportation can be stressful.
Anyway, our first couple days involved walking around, shopping (we spent soooo much money on children's books because #english and Max's birthday was fast approaching) and meeting up with Davide to take a little tour of his department at the University of Glasgow. My impression of the city was that it was a good introduction to Scotland (food, Argyle Street, fish 'n chips and plaid), but our next visit (yes, we loved it that much) will involve the more rural parts of the country, no kids and whiskey tours.
So here's some of the random pics of the first couple of days. I was ergo-ing Zachary so my camera was constantly being poked at (apparently camera straps make a good teething toy?), which means I maybe took a couple pictures before I got annoyed and put it away. Le sigh. But I keep reminding myself that this too shall pass and too quickly so enjoy the snuggles and the annoying curiosity.
△This photo is actually a throwback to Scott driving on the "wrong" side of the road for the first time. Take note of the furrowed brow and the intense look of concentration.△
△Scotland gave us the most AMAZING sunset on our drive up and Max had a crazy obsession with all the windmills… and there were A LOT.△
△Left photo: Just a cool mural on the way to the metro from our hotel// Right photo: a renovated church down the street from us. I'm not sure if it was still used as a church or something else. I guess it's not uncommon to turn the Catholic churches into something like a restaurant or bar.△

△A shout out to Scott's hometown of Argyle. Also, KFC?!?△

△We decided to go to the Hunterian Museum. It was early enough in the morning so we were one of the few people there. We try not to be too loud, but you know, the little LaPoints are still learning volume control. Anyway, for more info on the museum, click here. I would recommend it, especially traveling with kiddos, because it's free, it's small (very important on the parental check list for child friendly activities) and it's informative (you know, if you're into educational shit). △
△I've always loved educational illustrations.△

Next up: the highlands!
