Every year, at the end of September, Germany hosts one giant drinking party called Oktoberfest. Why it's called Oktoberfest when it's actually in September is still a mystery to me, but when it comes to litres of good beer, it could be Oktoberfest in May and I still wouldn't give a damn.
Anyway, once again, Scott and I, along with a few others from the Institute, enjoyed the local Oktoberfest in Konstanz. And once again, we danced on the benches, prosted and sang along with songs from around the world. "Tina Turner" and "Slash" even made their annual appearance. The only difference, and probably most important, was that I did not have to carry a certain someone home this year. Instead, we stayed to the very last set, and took the train home with a bunch of drunk Germans singing a vulgar song (I'm not even going to get in to what it was about) at the top of their lungs until our stop in Radolfzell. I am still in awe that not one fight, not even one argument, took place on the train, at the train stop or in the streets.
So overall, it was one of the best evenings of the year. Not only did we get to drink lots of beer and sing along to catchy German songs as well as terrible American ones, but the people watching was divine. Who else can say that they witnessed a nun getting sloshed and dancing on a bench. Somewhere that's got to be considered a sin. Drinking, dancing, singing? Sounds like she might be in for a lot of Hail Marys.
Anyway, I finished off this blog with a little treat. Unlike last year, we did not get any video documentation of the Konstanz Oktoberfest and I know that it's one thing to discribe what it's like to be there and another to actually see it. So this year, with my fancy schmancy camera that has a video setting, I took clips of the some of the goings on. I know it's not Munich (which is the official German Oktoberfest), but if you can imagaine the Konstanz one times 100, then that's what it would be like.
