This past December we spent the holidays in New York with family. We did the same thing last year, but what a difference a year makes!
First of all, Max got his own seat on the plane!! Not that that is a huge deal, but when you're so many months pregnant, holding a wiggly toddler for 9 hours is not my idea of a good time. Also, because we paid full price for his ticket, we were allowed to bring his car seat on the plane which was a MAJOR savior for us. Max is an awesome traveler, but unless he's in his seat and buckled in, he wants to be up and socializing and walking around. Which is fine, but when you want him to settle down for a nap or just to relax for a little while, the car seat is like magic. Once in it, he can sit (or sleep) content for at least a couple hours and a couple hours is all that two tired, travel worn parents need to recharge (just a little).
Second, Max's reaction to family was hysterical. In the past year, he's turned into such a social little man, so being with family (especially grandparents and aunts) was definitely fun for him. A year ago, I don't think he quite understood that new people meant new playmates, but this year it was pretty obvious to him that mom and dad were old news and grandparents, aunts and cousins were far more entertaining. Not that Scott and I minded. It was fun for us to be able to leave Max and have a date night or go shopping, without worrying about him crying to whole time.
And finally, snow! Unlike last year, Max really got into the stuff. I think maybe he was a little too small to enjoy it when he was one, but two is his year to really explore new/old things. He wasn't too sure about snow when he first was reintroduced but it only took a sled ride and snow balls for him to figure out that winter can be awesome. Now, all it takes is a glimpse of snow outside and he's running for his boots. He's lucky that he's so darn cute, because I don't go outside in the cold months for just anyone…
Anyway, here's the first batch of snow photos. We had a pretty awesome snowstorm when we first arrived in New York, so it was about a week of just non-stop snow before it got "warm" again. Enjoy!
