So there's this mall back in my hometown. It started out as the biggest mall in the area. All that you would ever need (in the clothes, shoes, and accessories department of course) could be found in this one mall. Then it got bought out by a company that had plans to make it an even bigger mall. Like one of the biggest malls in the country. It went from being called Carousel Mall (for the very old antique carousel that currently resides in the food court and that I want to say was found in the bottom of a lake but really I have no idea), to Destiny USA*. Pretty over the top, right? Anyway, being the mall rat that I am, we just had to check it out and it's big. It's huge, Tom, huge (people back home will get that reference)! Almost too ginormous and apparently it's only going to get bigger. So if you're ever in the Syracuse area and it's raining or too hot, you should check this monstrosity out but don't go on the week-ends, holidays or evenings, because everyone is doing the same thing. It's huge, it's crowded and the Canadians love it. So basically it's like going to Konstanz on a Saturday times ten.
Moving on to the rest of that day. We decided, after many hours spent in Destiny, to check out my sister's boyfriend's place of work in downtown Syracuse, aka Armory Square, aka Drunk Central. Where nights are made fuzzy by deliciously made cocktails and beer sampling trays. Where great music can be found along with motorcycles and pulled pork. Where college students roam free with their fake IDs and pregaming buzz. Where once upon a time, I used to chow down on some pizza at 3 in the morning after dancing the night away...
Anyway, back to my sister's boyfriend's place of work. It's in a building made up of small up-and-coming tech savvy businesses. Like, for example, my sister's boyfriend's company which is an up-and-coming, movie making, RED camera operating small group of young creative professionals. It's pretty awesome and being of the movie making, film/camera equipment appreciating background, I was super jealous. Okay, mostly just jealous of the camera equipment. When one comes face to face with something that they've been drooling over for EVER, it's life changing. I mean really, Canon, I'm in love.
From there, we decided to walk to Sound Garden to check out some CDs and DVDs. It wasn't in the same spot that I remembered (it had relocated), but walking in it had the same vibe. Almost like a head shop for the music and movie lover. It was pretty rad (haven't heard that word since California, but it seemed like an appropriate time to use it) and kind of funny to see that most of the kids where perusing the DVD section instead of checking out the music. How long will it be before CDs go the way of tapes? Ah, the digital age. Too bad they charge nearly as much for a download as they do for the hard copy. I guess that's why "sharing" music is so popular. Just don't get busted. It sucks. Especially if you get caught with your pants down listening to something so off the cuff (...Lady Gaga...) when most of the other "borrowed" music you had was sooooo much more adult and cool. Not that I know what I'm talking about. I'm just speaking hypothetically.
*On a cool yet random side note, my sister's boyfriend and the company that he works with, filmed a promotional video for Destiny while we were in town. We got to see some of the behind the scene stuff and the final product is AMAZING. You can view it here.
