Thailand

Photos taken by Scott on his "Asia" tour.

A typical street near Khaosan Road, Bangkok.  This was a Sunday, so most of the shops were closed all morning.

It was the Queens birthday, so the city went out of its way to celebrate.

A small and random sighting: a German polizei in Bangkok.

We visited a number of religious-themed parks and Bhutist temples.

In honor of the Queen, they had upped their displays.  Notice the tulips are still in their pots...

On the way up the golden temple, Davide hitting the gong and summoning a dragon.

Pilgrims paying their respects.  The woman on the right is bagging "offerings" (i.e., the flower cutings).  She'll carry them back down the temple where someone else will buy them, and re-offer them.  Neat.

View of sprawling Bangkok from atop the Golden Temple.

An indoor market near the Navalai River.  Many locals and tourists in here.

A quiet Sunday morning on a typical street in Bangkok.  The woman is selling roasted corn.

In the distance are a number of family owned street "restaurants" and food carts.  The food at these are delivious and cheap.  Just don't mind the barrels and buckets where kids are washing your dirty dishes.

A water monitor lizard lounging in a city park.

Place your bets and buy your tickets.  A local Muay Thai boxing arena.

We got caught in an evening monsoon more than once, but this one was the worst.

More excellent food.

Tuktuk? Ping pong show?  Boom boom?  Whatever you need, these drivers can get you there...
